Mathighatta Krishnamurthy dies

BANGALORE: Mathighatta Krishnamurthy, a well-known scholar on Kannada Janapada and writer, passed away here on Thursday.

He was 95. Hailing from Chikmagalur district, Krishnamurthy shot into fame in the late 1940s with the publication of his book "Kalasapurada Hudugaru" which dealt with the backwardness and antediluvian views of Brahmins in a village in Chikmagalur. It has been prescribed as a textbook for schools and was later made into a film. Krishnamurthy worked as a journalist for newspapers such as Kannada Prabha. He was recipient of the Kannada Rajyotsava Award. He has done commendable work in the field of Kannada Janapada on his own.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said in his condolence message that in his death, the State had lost one with deep love for Kannada.
