CHENNAI: The Chennai city police arrested two persons, including a woman from Kerala, and seized Rs. 88,000 in cash, police said. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Chennai city Additional Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid said a special team apprehended two persons who were moving in a suspicious manner at the Naval Hospital Road-Stringers Road junction on Wednesday. Enquiries revealed that they belonged to Kerala and possessed Rs. 88,000,a mobile phone, identity cards etc. The police examined the currency and found it to be fake. After recording the confession, the special team seized the notes.
Accused from Kerala
The names of the arrested were given as Savithri (58) of Trichur district and Mohammed Koya (55) of Vayanad district, Kerala. The Periamet police registered a case and remanded them to custody. The Additional Commissioner lauded the special team for the commendable work.
Student commits `suicide'
A second year M.E. student identified as Deepen Kartik (23) allegedly committed suicide under Pattinapakkam police station limits. Police said the reason for the extreme step taken by the victim was not known. Deepen Kartik was a native of Sivaganga district. His father was working in TWAD Board in Tiruchi. Further investigation is on.
