Set up gas-based power plants

Sir, — Power cuts persist in Bangalore despite it being a hi-tech city. To mitigate the power crisis, the Government should invest in power generation plants wherever surplus high pressure natural gas is available and transmit it to cities. It can set up gas turbine plants near the Godavari Basin and transmit the power generated to the State. The combined cycle gas turbine plants occupy less space.

Is this gender equality?

Sir, — To boast that police booked 365 men for occupying women's seats in buses and collected thousands of rupees by way of penalty is a disgrace to the cause of women's emancipation. This is a retrograde step in this era when there is so much talk of gender equality.

Bus pass holders

ill-treated

Sir, — In spite of repeated requests and warnings, some drivers and conductors of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation treat commuters, especially students and monthly pass holders, badly. Even when the bus is not crowded, the drivers skip certain stops near schools. They treat pass holders as if they are giving them a free ride. Some conductors do not allow people in the buses, especially early in the morning, if the commuters do not carry proper change on them. The authorities concerned should take note of this and take suitable action.

Post office needed

Sir, — Residents of Vidyamanyanagar are put to hardship owing to the absence of a post office in the area. Several requests in this regard have gone in vain. Opening of a post office there will not only help people in Vidyamanyanagar but also those in Omkaranagar, Andhrahalli and Sri Raghavendranagar.
