Music is my life, I never feel lonely: L.R. Eshwari

Veteran singer presented `Bharatha Gnana Bhushini' award

Bangalore: The Bharathiya Lalitha Kala Samsthe felicitated veteran playback singer L.R. Eshwari and presented her the "Bharatha Gnana Bhushini" award.

The samsthe had organised a programme, "Bharathiya Parampara Sinchana," here on Wednesday to felicitate 22 couples, who rendered valuable service in their respective fields.

The toppers of Secondary School Leaving Certificate and second year pre-university examinations were presented with the "Vidya Kusuma" awards.

Ms. Eshwari entertained the audience with her mesmerising voice.

She said: "Music is my life. I have never felt alone. I entered the music industry around four decades ago. `Anna Tangi' is the first Kannada film for which I worked. There are several songs for which I was paid just Rs. 200 to Rs. 300. My hard work has brought me till here."

The couples felicitated on the occasion included Doddarange Gowda from the field of literature and Tara from the film field.

To recognise and promote talent in children, singing, dancing and mono acting competitions were conducted as part of the programme.

Amrutha K.M from Bangalore Education Society, who secured 90.08 per cent in the SSLC examination, after receiving the "Vidya Kusuma" award, said that she wanted to become a engineer. Yashaswini from Vijaya High School, who secured 97.12 per cent in the SSLC examination, said: "I wish to become a neurologist or a gynaecologist."
