Three persons arrested; 800 gas cylinders seized

Bangalore: The Kadugodi police arrested three persons and seized from them 800 cooking gas cylinders on Wednesday. They seized two vehicles and goods estimated at Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh from them.

According to the police, the three accused — Kumar, Minna alias Ghous Pheer, and Krishna alias Krishnamurthy — used to steal the gas cylinders from lorries transporting them to Kadugodi, Hoskote, Mahadevapura, Chikmagalur and Beeruru.

They said the accused would then sell stolen cylinders.

Seven cases had been booked in various police stations against the accused, the police said.

Guard arrested

The Cubbon Park police arrested Ravikanth, 32, who was working as a security guard at Embassy Square, a prominent commercial complex in front of the Police Commissioner's office on Infantry Road for making a hoax call.

The police said that on July 20, the accused allegedly called the police control room at around 8.30 a.m. and said that a bomb had been planted in the Embassy Square building.

The police found that it had been made from the building itself.

The Cubbon Park police arrested the accused on Wednesday.

Asked why he made such a call, Ravikanth said that he wanted to see his son, who lives in Chennai, and his employer refused to grant him leave.

Doctor ends life

Vidya R., 31, a doctor, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday at her residence in Doddabanaswadi in Ramamurthynagar police station limits. The police said they had found a syringe next to the body.

She had left behind a suicide note saying she was resorting to the extreme step because she failed to get a seat for post-graduation course, they said.
