BANGALORE: In a unique initiative aimed at student filmmakers from all over the country, a city-based event management company, ACETHETIK Consultants, has announced an Indian Student Film Festival (ISFF). It will be held in Bangalore from February 3 to 9, 2007. Slated to be an annual event, ISFF will be a film festival open only for students across the country. The entries will be categorised as feature films, short films, documentaries, animations and music videos. These will be shown to a panel of judges comprising eminent film personalities. English subtitles will be required for films or videos produced in other languages. Writer and ISFF chairman U.R. Ananthamurthy said the event would expose students' filmmaking talent and showcase new opportunities. The vision of ISFF, according to ACETHETIK CEO, Krishna Menon, was to identify and promote talent from all corners of India. "With this event, we hope to provide a forum for student filmmakers to showcase their talent to veterans in film industry. This initiative will instil confidence in youngsters." Calling for inclusion of film studies in every university curriculum, Dr. Ananthamurthy said, "A good film becomes part of a student's sensibility. It is not forgotten." ISFF would seek the support of educational institutions and universities and film societies in its endeavour. "We are trying to create an environment in which films become a serious subject of study in all educational institutions," said Mr. Menon.
