Guwahati: Six CRPF jawans were injured, two of them seriously, in a grenade attack by suspected militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) near Bhojo railway station in upper Assam's Sivasagar district on Sunday. Sivasagar district Superintendent of Police Mridul Dutta told The Hindu over phone that suspected ULFA militants lobbed a grenade on a CRPF patrol party belonging to 168th battalion near Bhojo railway station.

The vehicle carrying the CRPF personnel was also damaged in the blast. This was the third attack by the militant outfit since Friday. Earlier one Army personnel was killed and two were injured in upper Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday and 15 civilians were injured at Jonai in Dhemaji district on Saturday in two separate grenade attacks by the outfit. The ULFA formed People's Consultative Group (PCG) on Sunday alleged that the Centre's stand of asking for a direct communiqué from the militant outfit was not in the spirit of the June 22 discussion between the PCG and the Centre which was attended by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil. The Centre had agreed to release five jailed leaders during the June 22 discussion with the PCG but now Delhi has been insisting on the direct communiqué from the outfit for their release, the PCG alleged in a statement.
