  • Representatives of the association invited for a detailed discussion with the Director of Pre-University Education
  • Need to encourage students to take up teaching as a profession stressed

MANGALORE: More than 75 per cent of problems in the education sector were administrative in nature and could be solved through discussion, said Ganesh Karnik, MLC, here on Thursday.

Speaking after inaugurating an educational conference organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University College Principals' Association, he said that only 25 per cent of the problems in the education sector required changes in policy.

    Memorandum

A memorandum with a series of demands concerning pre-university education was submitted to Mr. Karnik on the occasion.

The demands included the need to complete the evaluation process of the second pre-university supplementary examination by June 15 every year, fill vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff, ensure salary payment to lecturers by the fifth of every month, and revise pay scales of principals in pre-university colleges.

Mr. Karnik invited representatives of the District Pre-University College Principals' Association to come with him to Bangalore for a detailed discussion with the Director of Pre-University Education, on all the issues that have been raised in the memorandum.

    Encouraging students

Mr. Karnik spoke of the need to encourage students to take up teaching as a profession.

With many opportunities in the information technology and biotechnology sectors, teaching as a profession failed to attract bright students.

Meritorious second pre-university students, heads of institutions with 100 per cent results and retired members of the association were honoured for their support and contribution on the occasion.
