Kumaraswamy receives petitions

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE It was a "janata darshan" of sorts by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the inaugural of the Suvarna Shaksharata Andolana.

While three physically challenged children — Mangala Gowramma, Venkatesh Babu and Guruswamy — went up to the dais and submitted memoranda seeking financial assistance and jobs, several residents approached him with civic problems. The Chief Minister accepted the representations and gave a promise that their problems would be solved. He asked officials to ensure that the three children got pension from the Government. He asked their parents to meet the officials, who would also help them get loans to set up some business.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that the benefits of welfare schemes for the physically challenged were often not reaching genuine beneficiaries. "It is unfortunate that these children do not know whom to approach and where to apply to seek assistance," he said.
