Guntur boys, Krishna girls triumph

VIJAYAWADA: Guntur boys and Krishna girls emerged overall champions on the final day of the three-day AP junior athletic meet here on Sunday. Hyderabad boys and Visakhapatnam girls finished second.

In the U-14 boys' segment, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam took the top two spots and in the U-16 category, Guntur and Karimnagar bagged the first two places. In the U-18 category, Guntur and Hyderabad won the honours while Krishna and Hyderabad topped the U-20 segment.

Guntur girls dominated the show by finishing on top in the U-14 and U-18 segments. Hyderabad and Krishna topped the U-18 and U-20 segments.

Rakesh hits century

A facile century by Rakesh helped South Zone score an 18-run victory over North Zone in the ACA inter-zone u-22 one-day tournament being held at Loyola Public School at Nallapadu (Guntur) on Sunday.

The scores: South Zone 233 in 48 overs (Rakesh 100, Naushad 43, Hussain Basha 42, P.V.N. Raju three for 39, Sudhakar three for 38) bt North Zone 215 in 46.2 overs (Abhiram 44, Deepak 41, Naushad three for 37, Vishnuvardhan four for 27).

Mandal-level sports meets

The mandal-level sports events are to be conducted from Aug. 18 to 21 in every mandal of the Krishna district. Each mandal in-charge will be given financial support of Rs. 4,000 for the conduct of the event.
