Bangalore , Aug. 14

Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation would be setting up a new multi-speciality facility in the city at a cost of Rs 40 crore. The new 125-bed healthcare centre would have extended facilities such as nephrology, and orthopaedic care and surgery. It is expected to be launched in the next 18 months.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Dr B.G. Muralidhara, Chairman of Trinity and a renowned interventionist cardiologist, said the Heart Foundation Trinity had been upgraded to handle kidney transplantation and dialysis for which it had received the Government's approval.

CT Scan

Speaking on Trinity's progress in the six years since it started, Dr Muralidhara said the recent introduction of the 64-Slice Brilliance cardiac CT Scan had made cardiac prevention care more accurate and affordable. Besides the cardiac problems, the CT Scan could also detect arterial aberrations in other parts of the body, including the brain. It is also capable of helping in diagnosis of cancer, he added.

The 64-slice Brilliance Cardiac CT Scan has performed 1,300 coronary angiograms of which 324 were abnormal cases, Dr Muralidhara said. "This test was useful in preventing heart attacks as it could detect blockages in the arteries in the very early stages. It also prevented sudden cardiac deaths and was helpful especially to those people over 40 years of age who had diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high stress," he said.

Dr Muralidhara said with leading third-party administrators of health insurance companies such as TTK and Medi-Assist approving the CT Coronary Angiogram, leading corporates have shown interest in enlisting Trinity's services for their employees.
