Chennai : Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning began releasing water from the Kandaleru reservoir, the terminal storage point in its territory about 200 km north of Chennai, to Tamil Nadu. The release began around 11.30 a.m. with 200 cubic feet per second (cusecs). The rate of discharge will be stepped up gradually. The initial flow is likely to reach Tamil Nadu in five days, officials here say. During the discussion between the two States in Hyderabad on August 5, Tamil Nadu had urged Andhra Pradesh to ensure that the realisation of water at its end was 1,000 cusecs.
