Three Hyderabad lensmen bag top prizes

Ramesh Babu, Mohd. Yousuf among winners

HYDERABAD: Three photographers from the city bagged top three prizes of the World Photography Day Contest 2006 conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Press Photographers Association here on Friday. K. Ramesh Babu of The Hindu bagged the first prize while Mohd. Yousuf, also of The Hindu , won the second. Eenadu's A. Srinivas came third.

Ten photographers won consolation prizes as well. These were G. H. Eshwar Prasad of Andhra Jyothi, Kakinada, who won two prizes, Uma Maheshwar (Andhra Jyothi, Guntur), Sukoor (Andhra Jyothi, Karimnagar), P. Narsimlu (Andhra Jyothi, Anantapur), D.A. Sheshidhar (Andhra Jyothi, Hyderabad), N. Balaji (Andhra Bhoomi, Hyderabad), Parthasaradhi (Eenadu, Warangal), A. Srinivas (Eenadu, Hyderabad) and Ganesh (Eenadu, Kurnool).

The Association, which had organised a special section for pictures of floods, announced three special prizes for K.R. Deepak of The Hindu , Visakhapatnam, Venkat of Eenadu, Eluru and Gopikrishna of Eenadu, Tadepalligudem.

The prize-winning photographs were selected from 410 entries from across the State by a panel of judges comprising veteran journalist A.B.K. Prasad, Photo Editor of The Hindu (Chennai) D. Krishnan and Times of India Joint Resident Editor Ram Karan. The awards will be presented to the winners at a function on Saturday.
