Five meet records tumble at inter-school meet

BANGALORE: More records tumbled in the one-lap events on the second day of the 7th KPMG-Cadet Bangalore City inter-school athletics meet at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

Of the five meet records to tumble on Friday, three were in the 400m before the Bishop Cotton boys rewrote the U-16 4x100m relay time with a 46.8s effort to better Army Public School's previous mark of 47.8s set in 2003.

Earlier, Nirupama Sunder Raj of Baldwin Girls leapt to a new high of 5.34m in the girls' U-14 long jump event. She showed her prowess with a spectacular leap and improved upon her previous best of 4.65m. Her effort also put to shade Pallavi Sukumar's previous mark of 5.07m.

Shirish Shetty (Bethany's), Richard P. (Baldwin) and R. Pooja (Innisfree) all established new marks in the one-lap race.

Shirish improved upon H.V. Kushal's mark (1:06.7) for the boys' U-12 title with a 1:04.8 run while Richard sprinted to the finish in a time of 56.1s in the boys' U-14 400m bettering S.M. Roshan's mark of 57.5s. R. Pooja then clocked 1:05.6 to rewrite Sanjana's mark of 1:09.6 in the girls' U-12 event.

Nearly 1,700 athletes were weeded out due to overage problems.
