Bangalore: The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for Rs. 1,300 crore with the Rural Electrification Commission (REC). Speaking to presspersons here, REC's chairman and managing director A.K. Lakhina said the MoA was part of a national programme to reduce losses. "Six months ago, we signed an agreement for Rs. 2,700 crore with KPTCL. The funds are being used to improve the system and reduce losses," he said. Mr. Lakhina said KPTCL now had losses up to 27 per cent. The national figure was 38 per cent. "Compared to the national figures, Karnataka is doing fairly well. However, there is room for improvement," he said.
