Madurai: Srichakra Tyres Cricket Club lifted the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trophy defeating Le Chatelier CC in the final of the district-level cricket tournament here on Sunday. The scores (final): Le Chatelier 93 in 18.3 overs lost to Srichakra Tyres 91 for seven in 11.2 overs on run rate (match abandoned due to rain); semifinals: Le Chatelier 176 for five in 20 overs (Santhosh Gopi 51, Robert Vinay Raina 40, Jeyakumar four for 23) bt Eleven Billets 109 in 20 overs (Nawaz 40, Sethuraman four for 22).
Senthil wins title
M. Senthil of Pot Black Centre won the title in the District ranking billiards tournament here on Sunday. Senthil was declared winner after the deciding league match as his opponent John Peter of Railway Institute failed to turn up. E.B. Kuppusamy of Union Club lost the first two frames, but bounced back to win the next three to beat his club-mate Dr. R. Vijayan 131-150, 129-150, 150-129, 150-138, 150-145 for his only win and to finish runner-up. Vijayan, without a win, finished third.
Aditanar College wins
Aditanar College, Thiruchendur, won the title defeating St. Xavier's College, Palayamkottai 21-17, 25-16, 25-21 in the final of the southern districts open volleyball tournament at Kayalpatnam on Sunday. The results: semifinals: Aditanar College bt Pope's Volleyball Club, Sawyerpuram 25-15, 25-22; St. Xavier's College bt PSA SICAL 25-23, 25-22; quarterfinals: Pope's bt Bishop Caldwel College, Tuticorin 25-16, 14-25, 25-20; Aditanar bt St. Michael, Mudalur 25-14, 25-21; PSA SICAL bt United Sports Club 25-15, 25-20; St. Xavier's College bt Readymade City, Puliamputhur 25-18, 25-16.

Solar blanks St. Mary's
Three goals by Murugan and one by Chellappa helped Solar Football Club post an emphatic 4-0 win over St. Mary's Football Club in the DDFA first division league at Dindigul on Sunday. Earlier, Sun Sports Club beat St. Mary's 2-1. Balasubramanian and Parasuram scored for Sun Sports and Jeswaj scored for St. Mary's.
