CHENNAI : Two confident tricksters took away jewellery weighing 30 sovereigns from a businessman in Kilpauk on Monday. According to police, the tricksters came in a two-wheeler to the house of G. Raghupathy (42), a businessman residing in Aspiron Garden, Kilpauk, around 7.30 a.m. Flashing identity cards, the two, who claimed to be officials from the Income Tax department, proceeded to conduct a search of the house. After taking the 30 sovereigns of jewellery, they informed Mr Raghupathy that he could collect the jewellery from the IT office. It was only when the businessman went to the IT office to ask about the jewellery, did he realise that he had been cheated by conmen. Mr. Raghupathy filed a complaint with the Kilpauk police, who registered a case of cheating and are investigating.
