Awards given away to photographers

HYDERABAD: A Prime Minister struggling to keep his balance before taking his seat on a dais filled with mattresses, a squirrel looking longingly at a tap for a drop of water to trickle down and a father hugging his son who suffered third degree burns.

These were photographs that bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively at a photo competition conducted by Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh Photo Journalists Association. They were judged by a five-member jury.

The prizes were given away by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to G. Balaswamy (Andhra Jyothi), M. Venkataramana (Vaartha) and Nani (Andhra Bhoomi) respectively, at a modest function here on Tuesday. There were seven consolation prizes and one special prize to a lady photographer, Padmavathy of `Eenadu' Telugu daily from Vijayawada.
