Fake passport:

three held

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four persons in connection with an ongoing inquiry into a fake passport racket. The suspects were arrested from a building near the Regional Passport Office in the city. The agency is reported to have seized forged SSLC certificates and seals from the possession of the accused. — Staff Reporter

Mahotsavam inaugurated

Thiruvananthapuram: The 26th annual `Mahotsavam" of Kerala Hindi Sahitya Akademy was inaugurated by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar. At the function, the Minister felicitated George Vattoth, C.M. Yohannan, N. Kumara Pillai, Retnakumari Amma and Santhakumari for their contributions to Hindi literature. Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala, M. K. Ramachandran Nair attended. — Staff Reporter

Plea to end anomalies

in pay revision

Thiruvananthapuram: Doctors owing allegiance to Kerala Government Medical Officers Association would participate in the dharna in district headquarters demanding immediate steps to end anomalies in pay revision. A release from KGMOA secretary D.Balachandar said the association has also decided to go on 24-hour strike on August 30. — Staff Reporter

Two commit suicide

Thiruvananthapuram: A 35-year-old man , who used kerosene to set himself ablaze, was brought dead to the casualty of Medical College hospital on Wednesday morning. Hospital sources identified him as Anilkumar of Andoorkonam. In another incident at Vattappara, a 35-year-old woman reportedly killed herself by jumping into a well in her house compound on Wednesday evening.
