Honour for VTU Vice-Chancellor

K. Balaveera Reddy

Bangalore: K. Balaveera Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has been made Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science, a global body of persons who have made significant contribution through their promotion of productivity. This was announced in Canada by Thomas C. Tuttle, president of the academy.

Born in 1941, Dr. Reddy earned his Master's degree from IIT, Kharagpur, and doctorate degree from IIT, Madras.

Later, he taught at the Regional Engineering College, Suratkal.

His record includes research in fields such as design of machine elements, design and drawing, vibrations, reliability and machinery diagnostics, gears and gear shafts, robotics and artificial intelligence, micro processors and machine tools.

He has also served as director of the Department of Technical Education, Karnataka.

Dr. Reddy has been associated with several national and international administrative bodies.

Within two years of taking over charge at VTU, Dr. Reddy established a 115-acre campus in Belgaum and was architect of the university's "e-campus," the first in the country.

With the link up to the EDUSAT satellite, VTU also became the first to run a pilot project networking all its affiliated engineering colleges and enabling videoconferencing of lectures.
