Thirty teachers chosen for State award

BANGALORE: Instead of calling for applications, it is interviews for selecting teachers for State award.

The Government has this time selected 20 primary school and 10 high school teachers for its annual best teacher award after interviewing them, bidding adieu to the practice of inviting applications from them.

Announcing the awards, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti said here on Thursday that the award would be presented on Teacher's Day, September 5 in Belgaum.

The Government collected data of deserving teachers and constituted special committees to interview them.

That innovative process had given the desired results, Mr. Horatti claimed.

Those chosen for the award are as follows.

Primary school teachers: N. Lakshminarasappa, Lingapura, Madhugiri taluk in Tumkur district; Suleman Khan, Bangavadi, Kolar; K. Virupakshaiah, Manchagondanahalli, Tumkur; N. Chandrashekharappa, Machagondanahalli, Davanagere; V. P. Kumaraswamy, Agrahara Dasarahalli, Bangalore North; G. Ramanna, Nagashettyhalli, Bangalore North; B. Chandrashekhar, Ballur, Hassan; N. Vasudeva, Enmur, Dakshina Kannada; D. Lingappa, Kundapura, Udupi; Mayamma, Devarapura, Kodagu; G. Rathnamma, Chikkagandasi, Hassan; Louis Briganza, Virajapet, Kodagu; Amasiddha Gurupada Sharanarthi, Malathota, Belgaum; Gowravva Shivaiah Talikothemath, Indiranagara, Belgaum; Malaji Gowraiah, Madaramaddi, Dharwad; Srishaila Chandramappa Kolhara, Muddebihal, Bijapur; Sumangala Lingappa Badami, Veerapura, Bagalkot; L.M. Bhagayatha, Hooda, Gulbarga; D. Mohanadasa, Bellary and Kalpana, Manvi, Raichur.

High school teachers: Mukunda Reddy M. N., Araga, Shimoga district; A. Ramaswamy, Kunigal, Tumkur; K. Shamanna, Sarakki, Bangalore; Vasantha Shetty, Hiriyadka, Udupi; A. Bhujangachar, Narasimharajapura, Chikmagalur; Basavaraju C., Tattekere, Mysore; Shivaprakashaswamy Shankaraiah, Saraganacahramatha-Jamakhandi, Bagalkot; V.B. Balimath, Basapura, Haveri; R.S. Hegde, Karwar, Uttara Kannada and Rekha Chavan, Bhimarayangudi, Yadgir taluk in Gulbarga district.

The award carries National Savings Certificates (Rs. 10,000), a citation and a memento each.
