S.J. Mukhopadhaya sworn in judge

CHENNAI: Justice Sudhansu Jyoti Mukhopadhaya, transferred from the High Court of Jharkhand, assumed charge in the Madras High Court on Thursday. He was sworn in judge of the Madras High Court by Chief Justice A.P. Shah.

Advocate-General R. Viduthalai, welcoming the new Judge, said Mr. Justice Mukhopadhaya had rendered several landmark judgments on panchayati raj, domicile issue and reservation policy.

Born in March 1951, he was enrolled as an advocate in May 1979 and was designated as a senior advocate in February 1993. He became the permanent judge of the Patna High Court in November 1994 and became a judge of the High Court of Jharkhand in November 2000. He was Acting Chief Justice in Jharkhand before being transferred as number two judge of the Madras High Court, Mr. Viduthalai said.
