Sahil Mahindra completes a double

NEW DELHI: Sahil Mahindra, a promising middle distance talent from Salwan Public School, completed the 800-1500 double in the Delhi State athletics championships at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

Sahil won the 1500 metres to add to the 800m title he had claimed on the opening day in the boys' under-18 section.

Compared to his 1:58.32s for the 800m that made people take note of the lean boy with a good `kick', the 4:10.66s for the metric mile on Friday was just about par.

On Thursday, DDA athletes Sourabh Vij (17.61m) and Sanjeev Rathi (17.99m) posted new meet records in shot put in the men's and boys' under-18 sections respectively.

Boys: u-16: 800m: Sunil Ram (Raj Rifles) 2:08.00. 100m hurdles: Ajit Singh (Raj Rifles) 15.80.

U-18: 200m: Sandeep Singh (Chhattarsal) 22.75. 1500m: Sahil Mahindra (SPS) 4:10.66. Triple jump: 1. Vinod Singh (Ramjas SSS) 13.63. 110m hurdles: Sachin Mahesh (Kendriya Vidyalaya) 20.20.

U-20: 200m: 1. Kader Khan (Ramjas) 22.59; 1500m: Sushil Kumar (Road Runners) 4:24.54.

Men: 200m: Varun Sabharwal (Road Runners) 22.36. 1500m: Shashi Kant (Growing Star) 4:07.92. Triple jump: Pramod Kumar (CRPF) 13.99. 110m hurdles: Dharam Pal (CRPF) 15.72.

Girls: U-16: 800m: Geeta Kishan (Rajiv Gandhi Sports) 2:29.20. Javelin: Kashish Manchanda (CJM) 20.09.

U-18: 200m: Prachi Roy (Modern) 28.98. 1500m: Jyoti Kumari (APS, Dhaula Kuan) 5:09.44. Javelin: Jayati Varma (SPS) 25.18.

U-20: 200m: Komal Tehlan (DDA) 26.80. 1500m: Jyoti Bisht (Road Runners) 5:24.22. Javelin: Ruby Yadav (Road Runners) 37.22. Long jump: 1. Sumitra Roy (LSR) 4.40.

Women: 1500m: Pooja Kumari (Growing Star) 5:50.93. Long jump: Shalu Chaudhary (Model AC) 5.60. Javelin: Wahida Abdul (CRPF) 39.87.
