Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Esplanade, Egmore, Perumbakkam, Tiruvanmiyur, Kodungaiyur, Sowcarpet, Vyasarpadi, Royapettah, Whites Road, Thousand Lights, Nungambakkam and Ice House for reasons of maintenance on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bank help for rural artisans

Canara Bank has launched a special drive to finance power tools that could enhance the productivity of rural artisans. The bank's general manager, R. Prabha, flagged off the van in Chennai. The van will travel across the rural parts of Tamil Nadu in the next three months popularising the use of hand-held power tools. The bank has tied up with Mico-Bosch to finance power tools under which up to Rs. 1 lakh would be granted. S.N.P. Sarathy, national Sales Manager of Bosch, said the van would also tour other States.

New bank branch

Andhra Bank has set up a branch at Villivakkam with on-site ATM. Chairman of the bank, K. Ramakrishnan, inaugurated the branch. With this, Chennai zone has 56 branches and 19 ATMs. The bank has proposed to set up ATMs and branches at Manavalan Nagar in Tiruvallur and Sholinganallur, said a release from the bank.

Interview with ophthalmologists

Sankara Nethralaya's Department of Medical Sociology will organise a face-to-face with ophthalmologists on Sunday at 10 a.m. on the occasion of the 21st national eye donation fortnight in the rural eye hospital at No. 8, GST Road (near Alandur Post Office), St. Thomas Mount. The general body meeting of the Chennai branch of the Aeronautical Society of India will be held on Wednesday in the conference hall of the Airport Authority of India complex in Meenambakkam on Wednesday.

The kumbabhishekham of the three-tier rajagopuram of the Maraimalai Nagar temple will be held on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. Yagasala pujas will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Free dental camp

Baskar Dental Foundation, T. Nagar, conducted a free dental health check up camp at the Gabriel Higher Secondary School, Broadway. The beneficiaries were given a thorough dental health check up, medicines, toothbrush, and toothpowder and diet guidance instructions. A detailed medical report on the dental health status and a handout on `Care of Teeth,' were also given to everyone. More than 560 students benefited by it.
