dated September 6, 1956: Seat for Laccadives

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on September 5 on the clauses to the Constitution (Ninth Amendment) Bill, the Home Minister, Mr. Govind Ballabh Pant, said: "We intend to provide a seat for the Laccadives and Amindives in the Lok Sabha so that a member may be nominated from these islands." He said that at present there was one seat for Andamans and Nicobars. The Laccadives and Amindives did not have a seat.
