MUMBAI: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president and Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar's daughter, Supriya Sule, filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha by-election at the Maharashtra Legislature here on Tuesday.

She said she would work for women's empowerment, education and health.

Ms. Sule is the NCP candidate backed by the party's ally, the Congress, and is expected to get elected unopposed. Given the combined strength of the two ruling parties in the Assembly, the Opposition Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party combine is unlikely to field a candidate. Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil, Maharashtra Congress president Prabha Rau and other Ministers accompanied her, besides her husband, Sadanand Sule.

She said that she felt happy that the two parties had reposed faith in her and it would not matter where she worked, at the Centre or State.

Asked if her nomination amounted to dynastic politics, she said: "I am Mr. Pawar's daughter and am proud to be in his shadow."
