College student goes missing in the sea

CHENNAI : A first year B.Com student from Bangalore who came to Chennai for a basketball tournament has been reported missing in the seas off the Marina since August 28.

Police said a group of boys arrived here from a private college in Bangalore on August 26 to participate in the basketball tournament held in a city college.

The team lost its match, but as the team had booked return tickets for August 31, the boys stayed on in the city. On August 28, S Kiran (18), Somanna (18) and Kuttappa (18) went to the Marina beach for a swim. However, Kiran was trapped in the seawaves, while Kuttappa with the help of the public saved his friend Somanna.

Kiran could not be traced, police added.

Based on a complaint from college coach K Girish, Anna Square police have registered a case.
