Belgaum: The Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and the Karnataka State Bar Council and other fraternal organisations will organise a Lok Adalat to clear pending cases in various courts in Belgaum district.

The Lok Adalat is being organised as part of the Karnataka High Court's Golden Jubilee celebrations, which commenced on September 2 and will conclude on October 31 this year.

Briefly highlighting the objectives of what is a special drive to bring down the number of pending cases in various courts, District Sessions Judge Arun Chaudapurkar, Principal Civil Judge (Senior Division) and Chief Judicial Magistrate S.G. Biraladani told a press conference here on Thursday that the Chief Justice of the High Court was likely to inaugurate the adalat on October 22.

9,000 cases

They said at least 25 per cent of the 9,000 cases pertaining to road accidents would be disposed of.

That apart, cases pertaining to women, land acquisition, petty criminal offences and civil suits would also be taken up at the adalat.

Replying to questions, Mr. Chaudapurkar said though the number of pending cases had come down in various courts due to the role being played by Lok Adalats and Fast Track Courts, there had been a marginal increase in the number of accident cases in the district.
