ANANTAPUR: Irregularities in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), including misappropriation by postal staff, have been noticed in a few mandals in the district, according to district Collector Dasari Kadmiel. Talking to newspersons here on Wednesday, he said that the social audit being done in villages had found irregularities in Chennekothapalli, Gudibanda and a few other mandals in the implementation of NREGS. Misappropriation of wages pertaining to the wage-seekers by postal staff was also identified at some places, he said.
Creating awareness
Reports of the social audit would be discussed in the mandal-level meetings on Friday and action against the staff responsible for the irregularities would also be announced in the meetings. He reiterated that social audit of the scheme was nothing but a social check to create awareness among wage seekers and to find field-level problems in the implementation. The shortcomings identified by representatives of 31 NGOs conducting the social audit would be rectified in the implementation henceforth.
