Laurels all the way for science teacher

L.S. Shamasundara Sharma

BANGALORE: In recognition of his contribution to the field of secondary education, L.S. Shamasundara Sharma, Principal of Sri Vani Education Centre, received the national award for teachers, 2005, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on Tuesday.

A science graduate with a master's degree in education and Kannada literature, Mr. Sharma started his career as a teacher 37 years ago at the age of 21.

His keen interest in science motivated him to establish Sri Vani Science Park on the Hanumavana campus located on Magadi Road. The park attracts thousands of visitors every year and has a big collection of models, exhibits, rare plants and specimens. Mr. Sharma has conducted quiz programmes on Doordarshan and Akashvani. He has trained teachers in the State as the master trainer in utilising quiz as a tool for teaching and learning activities. He has authored many books in Kannada for children, especially on science.

Mehboob Jan and C. Hanumatharayappa of Bangalore were the other teachers who received awards from the President.
