DNA test of Gaganjit negative

Chandigarh: The CFSL report of the DNA test of Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Gaganjit Singh Barnala, facing charges of rape, has been negative, police said.

``The test concludes presence of no sperm of his anywhere,'' CIA in-charge Satbir Singh told PTI here on Friday night.

He, however, said police had sufficient evidence of Mr. Gaganjit Singh Barnala's involvement in rape. The DNA report was sought to strengthen evidence against him. ``The victim's statement to police that Gaganjit Singh raped her is enough in this case,'' Mr. Satbir Singh said.

Mr. Gaganjit Singh, son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, will be in judicial custody till September 11. He was arrested last month after his maid levelled charges of rape.
