BANGALORE: The city police in the past 20 days arrested 98 people accused in 120 criminal cases and recovered from them stolen property worth Rs. 2.85 crore. The recovered goods, vehicles, huge quantity of medicines, gold and diamond ornaments, silver articles, electronic gadgets and pirated CDs, were displayed at the BRV Police Parade grounds here on Friday. Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao told presspersons that after obtaining permission from the courts, the recovered property would be returned to their owners. This property is not part of the recoveries that were disclosed to the media earlier, he said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar said the staff from his division had recovered property worth Rs. 1.59 crore. The bulk of the detections was made by the J.P. Nagar police. They recovered 32 vehicles, including some high-end ones, all worth Rs. 1.47 crore by arresting six people from Kerala. The accused had stolen the vehicles from Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka, he said. The West division police claimed to have solved 17 cases and recovered goods worth Rs. 40 lakh by arresting 20 people. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra said the Kengeri Gate sub-division police had recovered medicines worth Rs. 21 lakh that were looted from a pharmaceutical company warehouse in Byatarayanapura police station limits. The police had arrested the main accused in the case, Chain Singh (36) of Rajasthan, and are on the lookout for his accomplices from Tamil Nadu. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Malini Krishnamurthy said her staff had solved 47 cases, arrested 27 people and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 27 lakh. One of the important detections was made by the Subramanyanagar police who recovered gold jewellery worth Rs. 13 lakh that was stolen from Pamidi Jewellers in Basavanagudi, she said. The East division police have solved 19 cases, arrested 24 people and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 46.15 lakh, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) P. Muniswamy. The Central division police recovered property worth Rs. 34.50 lakh by arresting 20 people, who were allegedly involved in 25 cases. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G.B. Chebbi said the Wilson Garden police recovered an antique diamond necklace worth Rs. 12.5 lakh by arresting a person who allegedly cheated a couple of the ornament. Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal B. Hosur said that in the past 20 days, the city police had arrested 362 anti-social elements who were absconding for long. The arrested persons include history-sheeters and out-of-view (OV) criminals, he said. Mr. Achuta Rao returned some of the recovered property to their owners. He issued commendation certificates to the public who had helped the police in catching the criminals. The commissioner also gave certificates to policemen who had detected these cases.
