People urged to maintain communal amity

Hyderabad: The Malegaon blasts have come in for strong condemnation by several organisations in the city. They demanded that the authorities take serious note of the incident and other recent acts of violence by some fringe elements and bring them to book.

In a statement, COVA, Coalition for Peace and Harmony, Pakistan-India People's Forum for Peace and Democracy, Ham Sab Hindustani Trust, Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace, Apna Watan, Aman Vedika, Help Hyderabad and Children's Educational Academy urged people to maintain communal amity. The statement appealed to leaders of all communities, political parties and members of the public to unequivocally condemn the violence and be vigilant to expose such subversive groups.

The All-India Christian Council, Catholic Union and United Christian Action have also condemned the bomb blasts that resulted in the death of `innocent' people. In a statement issued here on Saturday, the national president of the council Joseph D' Souza and State president G. Samuel said non-combatant communities were being targeted to foment confrontation and aggravate mutual distrust.

They condemned the gruesome act of wanton violence and called for peace.
