Indian archery squads

KOLKATA: Mangal Singh Champia and Chekrovolu Swuro topped the men's and women's recurve selection trials for the Doha Asian Games to be held in December.

The eight-member Indian team was named after the four-day trials that ended at Jamshedpur on Monday.

The lone surprise was the selection of junior archer Punya Prabha of Uttar Pradesh, who stood third overall behind Chekrovolu and Dola Banerjee.

The Archery Association of India also named the Indian juniors squad for the World championship to be held in Mexico later this year.

The squads:

Asian Games: Recurve: Men: Mangal Singh Champia, Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Vishwash. Women: Chekrovolu Swuro, Dola Banerjee, Punya Prabha and Reena Kumari.

World juniors: Recurve: Men: Prabhat Kandir, Kapil, Sandeep Khamboj and Birju Singh. Women: Punya Prabha, Reshma Banerjee, Ranu and Laxmi Rani Majhi. Compound: Men: Palton Hansda, Santosh Tamang, Abhishek Verma and Vijay Rai. Women: Sweety Kumari, Niva Kerketta and N. Rachitha. — Special Correspondent
