Polit Bureau of CPI(M) to meet today

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: A two-day meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau will begin here on Tuesday.

A wide range of issues, including the strategy for next year's Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Punjab, is expected to be taken up.

Issues under scanner

The United Progressive Alliance Government's economic and foreign policies are also likely to be reviewed.

The political situation in the country and key issues of national importance will come under the scanner.

On matters related to the country's fiscal policies the CPI(M) leadership has already urged the UPA government to reject the Tarapore Committee recommendations for moving towards fuller capital account convertibility. The party has made clear its opposition to the recommendations relating to greater liberalization of inflows and outflows of capital.

The meeting will also take stock of the CPI (M)'s month-long nationwide campaign in August to mount pressure on the Centre to desist from its "anti-people economic policies."

It will also focus on the party's organizational matters that are to be taken up in greater detail in the next meeting of the CPI(M)'s Central Committee.
