Jasdeep V. Singh, an Indian Revenue Service officer of the 1975 batch, is the first woman Chief Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax in Hyderabad Zone. Mrs. Jasdeep Singh began her career in Vadodara as Senior Superintendent of Customs and Central Excise in 1977. - Staff Reporter

MAHABUBNAGAR:
Two activists of CPI (Maoist), including a woman cadre, shot and injured a Congress party worker, Alwal Reddy (35), near Ambatpally village in Lingal mandal of the district on Monday. Mr. Reddy, whose condition is said to be critical, has been shifted to NIMS in Hyderabad. - Correspondent
Coal worker killed
KARIMNAGAR:
A coal worker was killed and another injured when the roof of Singareni Collieries Company Limited GDK 9 incline underground mine of Ramagundam region caved in on Monday. The mishap occurred when the coal workers were trying to fix a roof support pillar. - Staff Reporter
Weaver ends life
KARIMNAGAR:
A powerloom weaver of Sircilla committed suicide on Monday by consuming pesticide. Reports said B. Anjaneyulu (25) had bought a trolley-auto by incurring huge debts. Recently, his auto was seized by the RTA. He was forced to borrow more money to get his auto released. Unable to clear the debts, he ended his life. He is survived by his pregnant wife. - Staff Reporter

Four boys drowned
KURNOOL:
Two children were drowned in a pond at Kothacheruvu in Dhone mandal of Kurnool district on Sunday. When a group of children got into the pond for bathing, a boy, Kamabagiri, got stuck in quicksand. Another boy, Madhusudan, who rushed to his rescue was also drowned.

Sarpanch abducted, assaulted
Srikakulam:
Sasanapuri Anand, sarpanch of Battili village, who was abducted at gunpoint by an unidentified person around 7 a.m. on Monday near Sitampeta, was released by his abductor near a garden in Puliputti by evening. However, he was thoroughly beaten up.
The police say it may not be the work of Maoists.
Satyagraha centenary

NCC camp begins

Burglars entered the rented accommodation of Medak legislator P. Sasidhar Reddy during the early hours of Monday and decamped with a TV set and valuable utensils in Medak town. Port employees stage dharna
Kakinada:
Port employees owing allegiance to AP Port work charged employees union staged dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Monday protesting against non-payment of recurring deposit to them even after six months of the due date. They raised slogans denouncing alleged non-cooperative stance of the officials and vowed to intensify their stir till justice was done to them.

Divya BSc Biotechnology second year student of V S Lakshmi women's Degree College has secured first prize in poster presentation competition on ` Bio-active natural products' at the National level seminar conducted by the Vignan school of PG studies, Guntur and presented with the `Young scientist-Vignan Puraskar award', according to V Sandhya, College principal. Similarly Biochemistry lecturer of the College Mohammed Sheriff also has secured the first prize in paper presentation on `Bio-active natural products' at the national seminar.

Srikakulam:
The District Youth Welfare Department will give free coaching for written examination and physical fitness training to candidates appearing for the BSF constables examinations.
