NEW DELHI: NIIT on Tuesday announced a public-private partnership with three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), with the launch of the new institute — NIIT Imperia — that will provide management education to working executives using synchronous learning technology.

Synchronous learning technology enables remote classrooms to be connected live with the faculty teaching at the IIMs.

The content, teaching and certification and domain knowledge will be from one of the IIMs located at Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Indore, while the technology, synchronous classrooms across the country and the management of the distributed education system will be provided by NIIT.

"At present we have set up six centres of advanced learning at six cities (the four metros and Bangalore and Hyderabad) at an investment of Rs. 5 crore.

In the next three to five years, we hope to reach 75 cities with a Rs. 20-crore investment,'' NIIT Chairman Rajendra S. Pawar told reporters here.

As of now, the institute will educate 150 in-service executives per programme, pegging the total at 3,000 management students.

"We hope to touch 25,000 to 30,000 students in the next five years,'' the Chairman said. NIIT Imperia will offer two programmes from each of the three IIMs, including three general management programmes for professionals with a minimum experience of three years, six years or ten years from IIM Indore, Ahmedabad and Calcutta, respectively. — UNI
