One held in arms seizure case

CHENNAI: In a major breakthrough, the special team in the Q Branch police on Thursday identified the industrial unit in Ambattur that manufactured the arms consignment seized in Mahabubnagar in Andhra Pradesh on September 8. An employee of the unit, Anthony, has been arrested.

A special police team has rushed to Nellore to arrest Ragu, who runs the Ambattur unit.

Joint investigation by the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police revealed that the name of the person who booked the consignment in the name of Srinivasa Reddy was Ragu.

Immediately after securing Anthony, police conducted searches in industrial units in Ambattur, where the arms were manufactured before being transported to Mahabubnagar.

Highly placed sources said the team found that many parts of the rocket launchers and empty rocket shells were manufactured in and around Chennai.

The police are understood to have secured few vital drawings from the premises of the industrial unit on Periyar Street, Srinivasa Nagar, near Ambattur.

The police also conducted searches at units on Anna Street, TMP Nagar, Padi based on Anthony's confessions.
