`Committed to the use of Kannada in administration'

Kumaraswamy releases `Kannadadalli Aadalitha' by B. Parthasarathy

BANGALORE: The Government was committed to implementing Kannada as the administrative language, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Thursday.

He was speaking after releasing the book "Kannadadalli Aadalitha" written by retired IAS officer B. Parthasarathy. Mr. Kumaraswamy said it was regrettable that many government departments continued to use English.

He felt that unless the top bureaucracy led by example, and IAS officers from outside the State learned Kannada, it would be difficult to implement this policy.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government was contemplating bringing in a law, along the lines of Tamil Nadu to aid the implementation of Kannada as the administrative language.

This being the Suvarna Karnataka year, it was appropriate that Mr. Parthasarathy had come out with the book that could aid people who make an effort to learn the language and use it at work.

Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority Siddalingaiah presided over the function.

Chairman of the Karnataka Translation Academy Pradhan Gurudutt spoke on the book.
