Lorry driver found murdered

BANGALORE: A lorry driver from Punjab was found murdered in his vehicle in Nelamangala police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Thursday.

The police said the body of Ranjith Singh (30) was found on the driver's seat of the lorry on National Highway 4, off Chikkabidarakallu. Ranjith Singh had been strangled to death, the police said. Another lorry was found parked near Ranjith Singh's vehicle on the highway. Both the lorries were carrying goods from Bangalore to other places and the goods were intact, the police said.

The police suspect that an altercation between lorry drivers could have resulted in the murder. The police have informed Ranjith Singh's family members in Punjab. The body is at the Victoria Hospital mortuary.

Chain snatched

A youth snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 70,000 from an elderly woman in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said that around 5.30 p.m. the youth snatched the chain from Sharadamma (60) while she was walking near Kuvempu Park in 3rd Block, Basaveshwaranagar. He escaped on a motorcycle on which his accomplice was waiting at a distance, they said. The Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case.
