ANANTAPUR: Patients of tuberculosis under the treatment of National TB Control Programme in Anantapur and neighbouring districts, including Kurnool and Bellary, Kolar and Tumkur in Karnataka, will now get continuous treatment, including supply of tablets under DOTS.

At a meeting of the District TB Control Officers of the five districts, held here a couple of days back, it was decided to share the information of TB patients under RNTCP-DOTS and ensure continuous treatment to them.

It was admitted in the meeting that the people of the districts were visiting hospitals in neighbouring districts for treatment.

Supply of tablets

With the help of information exchanged on the patients undergoing treatment for TB, the TB Control Officers of the districts concerned would ensure supply of tablets under DOTS to all patients from now on, even if they are taking treatment by visiting hospitals in neighbouring districts.

As treatment of TB across the country is under RNTCP-DOTS method, it has become easy for the patients to get tablets anywhere, the DTBCOs, who participated in the meeting said.

Enrolment of TB patients was about 91 per cent in Anantapur district and the rate of eradication was about 86 per cent.

Patients undergoing treatment for TB were also suggested that they could visit any Government hospital in the country to get the tablets under DOTS.

The coordination meeting was convened with a view not to leave any TB patient outside the purview of RNTCP treatment.
