Congress leader calls for felicitation of leaders

BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council H.K. Patil on Sunday demanded that the Government formally invite Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to address a special joint session of the State legislature scheduled to be held, for the first time, in Belgaum from September 25.

The Government committed a mistake by not extending a formal invitation to the Governor to address the joint session of the legislature, he said.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Patil welcomed the Government decision to hold the legislature session in Belgaum. After a great deal of struggle the demand for holding legislature session in north Karnataka had materialised and the address by the Governor would enhance its significance and relevance, he said. Mr. Patil demanded that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and the presiding officers of both the Houses extend special invitation to witness the historic event to those who had fought for the cause of people of north Karnataka. Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha president Patil Puttappa, writer Chennavira Kanavi, musician Gangubai Hangal and leaders such as Siddanagouda Patil, S.M. Kulkarni and Raghavendra Joshi should be felicitated, he said.
