BANGALORE: A major fire broke out at the BPL electronic equipment-manufacturing unit in Hoskote Police Station limits in the early hours of Sunday. However, there were no casualties. The Fire and Emergency Services Department received information about the accident around 2.40 a.m. and the department personnel immediately rushed to the factory near Avalahalli off Old Madras Road with four fire fighting vehicles. However, 13 more fire fighting vehicles and a rescue vehicle were summoned, said Joint Director of the department Changappa. The fire was brought under control by 6 a.m. and was fully extinguished by 10 a.m. The first floor of the unit, used to manufacture speakers and components of audiovisual units, was gutted. The department personnel prevented the fire from spreading to the ground floor. The authorities are yet to identify the cause of the fire. In all, 23 officers and 83 personnel were engaged in fire fighting. The department's Inspector General of Police C. Chandrashekhar and Deputy Inspector General of Police T. Suneel Kumar visited the spot.
