BANGALORE: The State Government is likely to shift the venue of the Rajyotsava inaugural ceremony from the traditional Sri Kanteerava Stadium to the Karnataka State Cricket Association's Chinnaswamy Stadium to facilitate the Asian Youth Football Championship, Minister for Home M.P. Prakash has said.

He told presspersons after chairing a meeting here on Monday that the international sports event would be held in the city from September 29 to October 6. Owing to technicalities involved in the field maintenance and in accordance with the norms pertaining to football game, the Government was committed to hand over the stadium 10 days prior to the commencement of the event.

Therefore, it was imperative on the part of the Government to shift the annual Rajyotsava rally and the related outdoor events to a suitable place.

The Chinnaswamy stadium would come handy to hold the cultural event on various counts. However, the Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy would hold talks with KSCA president Brijesh Patel on the issue, he added.

    Law University

Mr. Prakash said the Government had received a comprehensive report on the proposed law university.

It was likely to move a Bill named the Karnataka Law University Bill 2006 in the ensuing five-day legislature session in Belgaum from September 25, he added

Special Officer J.S. Patil, appointed for the purpose, had recommended that sprawling 49 acres along with 32,818 square ft. disused structure belonging to the Karnataka State Reserve Police situated at Amaragol village between Hubli and Dharwad would be suitable for is campus, he said.

    Belgaum session

Referring to the reported plans of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi to hold a parallel convention at Belgaum on September 25, Mr. Prakash said he would request Marathi-speaking people in Belgaum and elsewhere in the State to cooperate with the Government and ensure smooth passage of the historical legislature session.

Asked if Governor T.N. Chaturvedi would address the joint session as reported in a section of the press. Mr. Prakash said that many things were to be clarified and ratified. The Chief Minister would meet Mr. Chaturvedi in a day or two.

On allowing Shoba Yatra at Datta Peetha, he said the issue was before the coordination committee and the Janata Dal (Secular).
