TERMINUS SITE: The MTC has sought the land near the Lily Pond shopping complex where call taxis are parked.

CHENNAI: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has sought land near the Lily Pond shopping complex off the Central railway station for a mini terminus.

MTC officials say the terminus will help in connecting the railway station with some areas of Chennai. Some services are operated from the station. But this was taking away a lot of space in the cramped area in front of the station.

Cut services can start from the place near the Lily Pond complex (where call taxis are parked). "A proposal was sent last year to the Chennai Corporation, but we are yet to get a reply," says an official.

The MTC has asked the railway authorities to provide shelters in the second bay. The existing shelter has been damaged. Sometime back, it asked the authorities to clear the space near the entrance to the station. "If this is done, buses getting down the Stanley viaduct can enter the station without any problem," an officer said. Drivers now take a sharp right turn while entering the bus bay.
