Making borderline cases hireable

New retail training initiative to be launched

CHENNAI : Next, an integrated training and recruitment management services firm, will take its flagship training offering to the individual by an open programme through a novel initiative called Job Preparatory Program (JPP).

To be rolled out simultaneously across all the southern states, the new initiative will expand to cover other regions as well over the next year.

JPP is a comprehensive, hands-on program, which addresses an array of skills that enable a person to cross the hireable threshold, including fluency, grammar, pronunciation, listening comprehension, vocabulary building, keyboarding and computing skills, grooming, etiquette and interaction skills.

The ideal candidate will be a student who has completed Standard XII from an English medium school. Spread over 120 hours, the programme has flexible time slots — during the day, evening-cum-weekends and in the evenings.

Manoj Pachisia, Director, Next, says JPP seeks to boost the employable talent pool by enabling candidates just below the hireable threshold to cross it through industry-oriented and structured training.

Over a period of time, the company hopes this combined corporate and retail training offering will build a strong competitive advantage for Next in the fast growing space for providing skilled resources.

JPP has been launched in locations in the southern States where Next now has a direct presence, and will soon be extended to two more States, namely West Bengal and Maharashtra.

By December, Next proposes to train over 3,000 candidates a month scaling upto 20,000 candidates a month by 2008, which adds upto a quarter-of-a-million people passing through JPP.

Next claims to have designed the JPP so as to ensure that at least 65 to 80 per cent of borderline candidates who undergo the training become hireable within 3 to 6 weeks of training.
