Army XI upsets BPCL

BANGALORE : Army XI pulled off a 2-1 upset victory over Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to set up a title clash with Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the Deccan Herald super division league hockey tournament at the KSHA stadium here on Wednesday. S. Sunil superb scoring effort in the 42nd minute and Dhananjay Madhik's match winning effort in the 58th tilted the scales in Army XI's favour after Hari Prasad (25th) had put BPCL in the lead.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited had an easy 3-0 win over Namdhari XI. Skipper Deepak Thakur (7th) opened the scoring and Bharath Chikaria scored in the first minute after the break. Rajpal Singh (67th) rounded off the tally for IOCL. Didar Singh shot wide off a penalty stroke awarded in the 19th minute.

Earlier Maharatta Light Infantry and Madras Engineering Group played out a 3-3 draw. Sandeep Shinde (40th), Ganesh Patil (42nd) and Kalyan Bhengra (53rd) scored for MLI while Dinesh Tirkey (45th), Shankar Narayan (49th) and Sat Prakash (70th) scored for MEG.

IOCL and Army XI will play for the title at 4.30 pm on Thursday while BPCL and Namdhari will clash for the third and fourth place.
