A.P. : Flood situation grim in East Godavari

Rajahmundry: The flood situation is grim in parts of East Godavari district as flood level of the Godavari has increased significantly at Dhawaleswaram.

In all, 1,000 houses were partially damaged as a result of water logging and 800 families in Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Amalapuram revenue divisions were affeted.

According to district Collector M. Subrahmanyam, there is no loss of human life. Paddy, red gram, chilli and sugarcane crops in 5,000 acres were affected. The second warning on the Godavari was issued at 12.30 a.m. The Collector said floodwater entered a few villages in Pitapuram mandal. He along with Rajahmundry Sub-Collector K. Sasidhar and others rushed to Torredu early in the morning and reached sluices from where a large quantity of water was flowing and inundating the nearby fields.
