Bangalore: The family of the late S.K. Kareem Khan, poet and folklorist, is shocked by the remarks about Tipu Sultan neglecting Kannada. Kareem Khan was the treasurer of the Tipu Sultan Memorial Committee that was active and had office bearers from all communities. His grandson, Tanveer, said, "My grandfather had on many occasions spoken about the exchange of letters in Kannada between Tipu Sultan and Sringeri Math." He said his grandfather used to say that Tipu Sultan was respected by the people for his good governance, secular nature and administrative skills.
