CHENNAI: "The Hindu-Young World Quiz" will be conducted in 13 regional centres this year, beginning on October 5 at Thiruvananthapuram. The new centre added this year is Puducherry, the Union Territory. The multi-centre quiz, now the most awaited event among schools, will be held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Mangalore, Bangalore, Chennai, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai. The all-India final will be held in the temple town of Madurai on November 14, 2006, coinciding with Children's Day. (See chart for schedule) At each centre, there will be a written preliminary round to select the six teams for the regional finals, and both will be held on the same day. A team will consist of two students from Classes 10 to 12 and each school can send in a maximum of three teams, using the official entry cards. The Hindu will meet the cost on travel, boarding and lodging for the teams and for one accompanying parent or teacher for teams not from Madurai for the all-India final. Once again, V.V. Ramanan will be the quizmaster. Eveready is the title sponsor for this year's edition of the quiz, while Jamai ice cream is the associate sponsor. The national sponsors this year are: Encyclopaedia Britannica, Reliance Hello, HP Invent Printers, Garden City College, Reynolds, Vizag Steel, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Britannia Tiger biscuits, Penguin and the State Bank of Travancore. "Maaza" is the official drink, S.S. Music the TV sponsor who will telecast (deferred) all the rounds, and Quizwallahs the event managers.
